Brief
- The site itself was simple enough and the front-end was simple but learning to use containers and Docker was a challenge
- How VPS servers work and using them effectively
Solution
- I made lots of fake sites and then used containers, Caddyfiles and Docker to host them to try and get a feel for whats going on.
- A lot of trial and error and using external resources to aid my learning and actually understand what was happeneing instead of just letting Claude do everything for me.
Learnings
- Whilst I wouldn't consider myself a back-end expert in terms of VPS, Docker, Caddy etc. I certainly learned a lot and had a firm grasp of what needed to be done to deploy a project into production.
